Getting Ready To Learn by Dr. Mohamad Azmi Nias Ahmad
After graduating from school level, we will continue our study at university level according to their respective fields. Students will find it is difficult to adapt to the new environment. For students who have not been apart from their family, they will find it is more difficult compared to students who have been away from the family. It is because there is a lot of differences between school and college academics.
Differences between School and College Academics
- You will spend less time in the class because you will spend most of your time studying outside of the class.
- You need to read a lot because the lecturer will not give you any general knowledge. they will provide basic knowledge. If you want to know something in more detail, you should look it yourself.
- You have fewer tests. Most of the lecturer will hold a few test or quiz to test the students' understanding.
- You might not be reminded of due dates and exams.
- There are fewer daily assignments and they may not be checked.
- You might live and study in the same place.
- Classes are bigger and there will a lot of students in one class. So, you have to pay more attention if you want to success.
- Instructors do not tell you exactly what is on the test.
- More team or group assignments with meetings outside of the class.
- Attendance may not be required.
- No extensions on due dates.
- Participation affects grades.
- Fewer reasons for excused absences.
- You are responsible for your own learning & behaviour.
- You only have a certain instructor for a few months.
- Instructors do not tell you what exactly what is important notes for you to take.
